ASUENE Inc. has announced that its overseas subsidiary, ASUENE APAC Pte. Ltd. has signed
a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), a leading
national public university in Malaysia. The partnership aims to co-develop a university-level
sustainability education program to cultivate the next generation of sustainability professionals.
The MoU marks a significant step toward strengthening collaboration in the education sector
and advancing sustainability talent development across Southeast Asia.
Background of The MoU
As the world accelerates efforts to address climate change and promote sustainability, the
importance of developing the next generation of leaders beyond corporations and local
governments, has become increasingly critical. In Southeast Asia, rapid economic growth has
intensified environmental challenges, while the shortage of professionals capable of
implementing decarbonization and ESG initiatives underscores the need for structured training
programs through collaboration between academia and industry.
The Malaysian government has declared its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050,
advancing renewable-energy targets and formulating an Energy Transition Roadmap. It has also
announced plans to introduce a carbon tax by 2026, initially targeting the steel and energy
sectors, marking a major step toward nationwide decarbonization. To implement such policies
effectively, it is essential to cultivate sustainability professionals equipped with expertise in
carbon accounting, ESG management, and renewable-energy deployment.
Asuene provides the ASUENE, a carbon accounting platform for GHG measurement, reduction,
and reporting, as well as the ASUENE SUPPLY CHAIN, a cloud service for supply chain
management. Both services hold the No.1 market share in Japan and are expanding rapidly
across the Asia-Pacific region. UiTM, Malaysia’s largest national public university, has strong
expertise in engineering and construction disciplines and is actively promoting green technology
through industry-academic collaboration.
Through this partnership, ASUENE and UiTM aim to develop practical sustainability talent and
contribute to realizing a decarbonized society and sustainable regional development through
both education and industry.
Details of the MoU Agreement
Under this partnership, ASUENE and UiTM will jointly develop a sustainability education
curriculum aimed at providing hands-on learning opportunities for university students. The
program is designed with the goal of obtaining accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications
Agency and will progressively introduce a variety of educational formats including seminars,
webinars, and case study analyses. These combine theoretical understanding with practical
application in areas such as carbon accounting and ESG management. The partnership will
start with a Proof-of-Concept (POC) exploration with the Program of Building Surveying, Faculty
of Built Environment, UiTM Perak Branch empowering Building Surveying Graduates and
Professionals as Sustainability Professionals within Architecture, Engineering and Construction
(AEC) Industry.
This initiative was officially announced during the MoU signing ceremony held in line with the
launching of Festival of Ideas (FOI) 2025.
