Supporting US companies in managing their decarbonization efforts through “ASUENE”, a carbon accounting platform
Asuene USA has formed a strategic partnership with TOKYO ELECTRON DEVICE AMERICA, INC. the U.S. subsidiary of electronics distributor Tokyo Electron Device.
Through this partnership, parties aim to provide the cloud-based carbon accounting platform “ASUENE”, along with other decarbonization solutions,to support US companies in their efforts toward decarbonization and sustainable management.
Background of the Partnership
With an irreversible global shift toward carbon neutrality, California, where both parties are located, has taken decisive steps in this direction. In September 2024, the state officially signed into law a bill mandating climate-related disclosures for companies, an initiative that had been under discussion since 2023. While climate-related disclosure requirements are being debated across different states in the U.S., California will require Scope 1 and 2 emissions disclosures starting in 2026 and Scope 3 emissions in 2027. California thus became the first U.S. state to mandate climate-related disclosures, making CO2 emissions transparency an immediate priority for companies based in the state.
Meanwhile, the global semiconductor industry continues to experience global market growth due to digitalization. However, this expansion also brings challenges in achieving a decarbonized society. For instance, the increased energy consumption associated with digitalization could result in higher CO2 emissions. Additionally, the semiconductor manufacturing process itself generates significant CO2 emissions.
Given these challenges, the decarbonization of manufacturing industries, including semiconductors, has become an urgent issue in California. To support this, ASUENE and TOKYO ELECTRON DEVICE AMERICA, an electronics trading company, have entered into a strategic partnership to assist the broader decarbonization efforts including CO2 tracking.
