ASUENE Inc. has launched a new feature for its AI-powered LCA and product carbon footprint (PCF) calculation software, ASUENE LCA, that brings together the data needed for the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
CBAM requires a wide range of information, from embedded emissions for each product to manufacturing site coordinates and product classification codes (CN codes). The new feature lets users upload and manage this data in one place, then automatically populates the EU’s communication template. The feature streamlines the collection and sharing of CBAM data for manufacturers exporting steel and aluminum products or components to the EU, including automotive parts suppliers.
Background to the CBAM Feature
The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) entered its definitive phase in January 2026. While EU importers bear the reporting obligation, Japanese exporters are asked to provide product-level emissions and manufacturing site data.
CBAM covers six sectors, including iron and steel and aluminum. Many companies still manage site coordinates, emissions and CN codes in spreadsheets, making data difficult to trace and supplier formats difficult to reconcile.
Without actual emissions data, default values with a 10% markup in 2026 and 30% from 2028 may apply. This could increase importers’ CBAM certificate costs and affect transaction prices.
